The installation estimate starts with a property-type range, then adds cable distance, consumer-unit work and a possible 22kW premium. Eligible OZEV support is deducted from the estimate.
The payback compares your home electricity rate with public charging for the same mileage. Get a site survey and written quote because cable routing and electrical work are property-specific.

A simple 7kW installation close to a suitable consumer unit tends toward the lower end of the estimate and easily replenishes typical daily mileage overnight.
A qualifying flat owner or renter may be eligible for the OZEV grant, but landlord/freeholder permission and parking arrangements can affect the project.
A straightforward UK installation is often around £750–£1,500, but long cable runs, groundwork, earthing changes or a consumer-unit upgrade can increase the quote.
From 1 April 2026, current home schemes can cover up to £500 or 75% of eligible purchase and installation costs. Qualifying renters, flat owners and households using the on-street parking scheme must meet the relevant rules and use approved equipment and an OZEV-authorised installer.
Most UK homes use single-phase power and a roughly 7kW wallbox. A 22kW unit generally needs three-phase supply, while current Model 3/Y onboard AC charging is normally limited below 22kW anyway.
